How Much Does Balayage & Highlighting Cost?

Straight answers with real numbers — including exactly what we charge.

In most US salons, highlighting runs $100–$300+ depending on technique, hair length, and stylist experience. At Jillz: partial highlights are $125, full highlights $150, and fully custom color work (including balayage-style placements and corrections) $165.

Why the price varies so much

  • Coverage. A partial (face-framing and crown) uses half the foils — and half the time — of a full head.
  • Technique. Hand-painted balayage and multi-tone dimensional work take more skill-hours than uniform foils.
  • Your hair’s history. Previously colored or very long, dense hair needs more product and more time. This is why every quote is confirmed at consultation.
  • Where you live. Big-city flagship salons charge $250–$450+ for the same service a skilled independent does for half that.

What’s usually included (and what isn’t)

At Jillz the quoted price includes the consultation, the color work, and a finished style. A separate toner or bonding treatment, where needed, is agreed on before we start — never a surprise line item.

How to budget for upkeep

  • Partial highlights refreshed every 8–12 weeks: roughly $540–$800/year
  • Root touch-ups ($80) between full services stretch the budget further
  • Color-safe shampoo makes each service last weeks longer — cheapest upgrade there is
