Beard Care Between Barber Visits
The 60-second daily routine that makes a $6 trim look like it happened yesterday.
The short version: wash 2–3 times a week, oil daily on a towel-dried beard, comb with the grain, and leave the architecture to your barber. That’s 60 seconds a day.
The daily minute
- Rinse in the shower (warm, not hot — hot water strips the skin underneath).
- 3–5 drops of beard oil on a towel-dried beard, worked to the skin. Oil is for the skin first, the hair second.
- Comb with the grain, then shape with your hands. Balm instead of oil if your beard is long or the air is dry.
Weekly
- Wash with a beard wash 2–3× a week — daily washing dries out the skin and makes it flake.
- Light neckline cleanup only: two fingers above the Adam’s apple, follow the curve. Cheek lines and shape are chair work.
What ruins a good trim
- Picking at strays with scissors in bad light (we’ve all done it — stop at one)
- Hot blow-drying without a heat protectant
- Waiting 8+ weeks between trims and asking for “just a cleanup”
Trims every 2–4 weeks keep the shape honest. At $6 with any haircut, it’s the cheapest upgrade on the menu.
